Paint a New World

So this blog is going to be about my position on what is going on in the Middle East. Egypt is currently a military state, which for now is all well and good, but what's going to happen in the short and long run? When President Mubarak left office, the people of Egypt saw their country fall into a political unknown. Democracy takes time to develop and given the geography of the area and the countries that surround Egypt, I would not at all be shocked to see some kind of terrorist group come into power. I find it really hard to believe that there will be a peaceful transition from the dictatorship that ruled the nation for decades to a full on democracy. I just don't see how it is even remotely possible for a nation to transform in such a rapid fashion. Another alarming fact is that without Mubarak in power I feel that there will be another war at some point between Egypt and Israel. With Mubarak was in power, Egypt and Israel were at peace. All signs are pointing to an end to that peace as it really does seem that the Egyptians want Israel wiped off the Earth. Want an example? During the protests to get Mubarak to leave office, Egyptian protesters carried signs with the star of David and at the center, Mubarak's face.More unsettling is the fact that Egypt has allowed Iranian ships through the Suez Canal. Not good... Not good at all... I think President Obama made a huge mistake in telling Mubarak to step down immediately and not allow a democracy to take form. I also think that this mistake is going to become rather imminent within the next year or two.

The other big thing is the current situation in Libya. Much like in Egypt, President Obama wants Qaddafi to step down immediately. Again though, who would take over? That's my question about that. However, I do agree that Qaddafi NEEDS TO GO. His actions during this time have been disgusting towards his own people. He is certainly an insane person who really needs to leave office. He's killed many of his own people... I can't blame the protesters for doing what they are doing. In fact I do support what they are doing, but same with the situation in Egypt... I just want to see some kind of peaceful transition. Problem is... Qaddafi vows not to leave without a fight... I think Libya is falling towards a civil war... America should just stay out of it and let them fight it out themselves, or support the rebels in the form of weapons and financial aid, but we should NOT send forces to that country...

I'm Making a Note Here... Huge Success

Time keeps rolling along and things continue to go smoothly with little problem. This week has been probably the most up and down week in a while though. I got my map project grades back and I am very happy with the B+ I got on each of them. I guess my drawing skills are improving a bit, at least in drawing Europe and Asia. I'm starting to really be interested in my Social Psychology class, making every class this semester quite interesting to me. On the hockey scene, the Devils have won 5 games in a row which also makes me very happy. In fact the only thing that could have hurt the week was news of someone close to me about to die.... Well guess what.... My uncle is now on his death bed and I will be going up to Linden tomorrow morning to say goodbye.

I am glad that I am 21 now and I have a better view of the world when it comes to death. I used to be petrified of death and would get extremely depressed when a loved one passed away. Now though, obviously I am sad about the situation, but I do understand the situation. He has been suffering for quite some time now and he's ready to go. In my mind, I know how good of a person my uncle is and I am actually kind of happy on the inside that his suffering is coming to an end and he'll be eternally happy. That's a great way of looking at death to me. When a loved one dies, I know where they are going to go and it's really a great feeling. I am sad that he is going to die, but like I said I am happy that his suffering is ending and though he will be missed, nobody will forget what he did during his time on Earth.

One day after getting that news... I get probably the best news that I've heard since well... i don't know... Anyway... The news was that the Japanese Whaling Fleet has given up whaling in the Southern Ocean this year. The sole reason was that the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society blocked the slipway of the factory ship for weeks and have not allowed the whalers to do their job for weeks. All in all... It is estimated that the Japanese had killed just 10% of their quota this year. This makes Operation: No Compromise, the single most successful campaign in Sea Shepherd history. The whaling season was supposed to run through March, but it has come to an end Feb. 18th, 2011. WAY TO GO SEA SHEPHERD!!!!!

Why the Raven?

For about 5 years now, my favorite bird as been the Raven. Kind of an interesting story behind it really. When I was 16 years old I really didn't have too much going for me. Those of you who know me know this to be true. Well it was a warm spring evening and I was fighting with my parents, so I chose to take my bike and go out for a while.

Since Point Pleasant is so huge, I decided to go up to the boardwalk. The wonderful thing about the boardwalk in the winter/spring is the lack of people. Riding your bike on the boardwalk in the spring is so easy compared to dodging people on a summer morning or night. Anyway... I was up there for a little while, wandered around the arcades, then decided to go down to the inlet. Once I got past the Aquarium, there was literally nobody on the boardwalk. I was basically all alone, save for a couple people walking on the beach. I get down to the inlet and take a seat on the bench. There I basically have a mental breakdown and start rambling to myself. When I stopped I just sat there, bent in half with my face in my arms until I heard a sound. I figured it was just someone walking up behind me since it was a sound that really didn't sound intimidating at all. After not hearing the noise again I decided to look up to see if some random guy was going to be there, but to my surprise there was something else...

There was a black bird, standing about 2-2.5 feet tall just sitting there on the railing in front of me staring towards the inlet. It noticed my movement and turned to face me. After a few seconds, that felt like forever, the bird turned back to the water. After a few minutes the bird took off. As it left I stood up and watched it. The sun had nearly set and it was about time for me to return home.

Upon my arrival I didn't say much to my parents, rather I headed straight to my room because I needed to know what kind of bird that was. I figured it was a crow, but this bird looked far to beautiful to be a crow. It's feathers were border line shiny and its beak was not that of a crow. After some researching, I figured and still believe that the bird that shared a moment with me was a common raven. So here's a picture of what the animal looked like.

So now it's up to you. You can choose to believe this story, since it is true, or you can choose to ignore it and call it false. The common raven does come to New Jersey, so yes it is possible. Why the bird did what it did is beyond me, but I can tell you that it made that night for some reason uplifting and the feeling is still there. It's almost as if someone was trying to tell me not to give up and to keep going in life because there is so much more to see. That's what it felt like seeing that bird flying into the sky, North of the setting sun.

Victim by: Eighteen Visions was the first song by this band that I have ever heard. I instantly fell in love with the song and video as at the time I was into exploring abandoned facilities. I went out and got the rest of the album and before I knew it I was hooked on Eighteen Visions. I am so happy I got to see them before they broke up. Victim may no longer be my favorite song by them, but it is still the first I heard and I strongly recommend Eighteen Visions to any one who loves great emotion driven music.

Religious Revial

Tons of thoughts have been going through my head as of late.... Regarding religion of all things. So here's my dilemma sort to speak. For my whole life I have been Christian. I went to church all through my childhood, celebrated the holidays, and read my bible. Basically I did what you would think any good Christian fellow would do right? I fully do believe in God and that Jesus was the messiah and that he will rise again to save us all from our sins. I celebrate Christmas and Easter, and frankly... That's where a lot of my frustration and confusion have come into play. Let's break it down.

Christmas is supposed to be about celebrating the birth of Jesus, but for as long as I can remember, it's not been about that. There is no gathering of family and celebrating the birth of Jesus. I mean there is gathering of family, but it's like, they're not there to celebrate what the holiday is really about. I mean it's like in today's day and age, nobody cares that Jesus was born and instead we should all rush out and try to stimulate the economy by buying tons of crap. Don't get me wrong, the season of giving is great, but it's to the point where it's more about the gifts and other stupid crap. It's just a real big shame.

Easter is supposed to be about Jesus coming back from the dead, spending some time with his disciples, then finally assenting back to heaven. How do we think of it today? Some dumb rabbit comes around hiding eggs.......... Where does that come from?

So that's my current issue with trying to practice Christianity. It's tough when holiday after holiday comes and goes with nothing really meaningful being said or happening. Don't get me wrong, in my mind a celebrate how I want to celebrate, I'd just rather have the entire family feel the same way. Now for something that is still kind of new to me.

Two years ago I was introduced to Judaism. Lauren of course is Jewish and as one would expect I've been invited to multiple family holidays. The difference between the Christian celebrations and the Jewish celebrations are just simply incredible. Every holiday has some significance in which I can really feel. I'll go over a few. The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah starts off with not eating for the entire day in order to start the New Year with a pure body. Then the family gets together and eats bagels, sandwitches, and other types of goods. Then just 10 days later is Yom Kippur, another holy day with high significance. Then something later in the year that has blown my mind for the past few years. Passover. The entire family sits at the SAME table and all participate in a Seder (religious ritual feast). During the Seder there is so much talked about involving the history of Judasim, including the story of Exodus from the Old Testament.

So I was kind of caught at a crossroads and so I came to this conclusion. I am going to hold my Christian beliefs and celebrate the holidays as I have since I've matured and really begun to understand religion. At the same time though, I think I am going to begin practicing Judaism. The Jewish faith just seems to be so much more warm and family oriented. The holidays have all maintained their true meaning and seem to be immune to the commercialization that has crippled several Christian holidays. I am not converting fully to Judaism, but I am going to continue to try and learn things about the Jewish religion, it's past, and it's present. Family is one of the most important things in my life and the way I see Lauren's family come together every year with the one goal of celebrating the true meaning of the holiday is just something really special that I wish I could have been a part of for much longer. In conclusion. I want to go back and be an original Christian. Christian in belief, including Jesus being the messiah and the New Testament, but Jewish in practice with the old traditional holidays.

There will be no denying that Jesus is the savior and will come again. There will be no denying what will happen during the End Times. What I am looking to get out of being a Jewish Christian is a better understanding, respect, and love for the Lord. As well as a continued effort at finding permanent peace within myself and the ability to bring my children up (someday) with a close relationship to God and not to the commercial holidays that will probably be fully changed by the time I have kids. At this point I think I would like my kids to celebrate Christmas and Easter, but not in the way they are celebrated today. I want them to understand what the holiday really means and I feel that the traditional ways of Judaism will help me accomplish this combined with the new age of Christianity.

No video this time... Just this picture of the Star Of David (Jewish Symbol) and the Cross (Christian Symbol). Christianity began as a branch off of Judaism, following basically the same practices minus the belief that Jesus is the messiah. I long to return to a time where Christians and Jews were just about the same. As long as I am with Lauren, I have a huge window of opportunity to do just that.

Feb. 4th, Untitled

I've been trying to think of some kind of blog to post tonight, but I've been having a bit of a typer's block. I finally came up with something to type about. So far in 2011, I have not done much and I've been pretty quiet when it comes to conservation and stuff like that. Well the fact of the matter is I have lost the support of the online group I was a part of, so I am now currently on my own again, but I'm still trying to do as much as I can on my own. I'm still very much so spreading the word about sharks, whales, dolphins, etc., but it's now harder to do without a well known group at my back. I've also been keeping close tabs on Sea Shepherd and am still supporting them 100%. The lack of updates on Facebook is simply because there really has not been much to update about. Whenever something comes up, I post it asap. Like I said already, it's just tough doing things on my own. Hopefully the near future at work will hold more opportunities to improve our conservation program, which I would very much like to be a part of.

My nights are kind of back to the way they used to be a few years back. By that I mean I can finally get Cartoon Network in my room again. This means my block of Adult Swim from 9-12 is back on! Nothing like nodding off to sleep while watching King of the Hill, American Dad, and Family Guy. It;s pretty nice, and I feel like I've been able to sleep easier. I guess relaxing and watching TV is better than playing Call of Duty or some other crazy game that keeps my blood pumping. Also, typing these blogs seems to let off some of the stress of the day which is never a bad thing.

As of around 4:00pm today, I've been getting an odd headache. Not only that, but I feel like I get dizzy from time to time and also feel lightheaded. It's annoying as anything, but I think I know the problem. I have a real big feeling that I am really dehydrated. I've been constantly thirsty and no matter what I drink, I can't seem to quench the thirst. Now at least I know what Barbosa felt like in Pirates of the Caribbean. As a result of this, because it's really bad, I think I'm going to try to cut down on my soda intake again. I've already stopped drinking alcohol (didn't that last a long time? Haha) and energy drinks, and now I think I'm going to try to cut back, not stop, drinking soda. Doing this will hopefully help my head and also help me out in trying to get overall healthier.

Well the sun has long since set, my head feels like it's cracking in two and I'm incredibly thirsty so I'm going to now post a video, drink 24oz of water and go to bed.

This is an un-official video for Avenged Sevenfold's song "Dear God". This video currently means quite a lot to me. Currently fighting over seas is my friend Ron Liu. I want to post this video mostly for my good friend Heather Nathanson, Ron's girlfriend. Heather, stay strong, he will make it home to all of us soon. You know that Ron's heart is always with you and yours is always with him and I'm sure he knows it. So this video Heather is posted mostly for you, but for me the video speaks volumes for any person who is serving overseas as well as their loved ones whom they've left behind at home. God bless all of the United States Armed Forces and may they return home safe. Heather, Ron will be home soon and we will all breathe a big sigh of relief and party like there's no tomorrow! Hang in there, it's just a little longer.

The Clouds Are Looming Overhead

It's been a strange couple of weeks. I can't help but feel that something big is just over the horizon. What this means, I don't know... Is it a good thing or a bad thing? I don't know... Am I just being paranoid? I don't know... I don't feel bad at all. I'm not feeling depressed, sad, or even annoyed by basically anything right now, but like I said, something I feel is coming. It's kind of like looking over the horizon and seeing a whole bunch of gray in the sky.

I'm starting to become a bit more weary of the people I associate with. I see myself growing away from certain people, while getting closer to others. This is extremely evident to me at work as I feel like I am getting closer to some fellow staff that I was not really close to and growing apart from some that I was close to since I started. It's weird, but at the same time, I feel like it's the right and best thing for me to do to avoid problems and drama around the workplace. I figure, it worked for me in school, it worked for me on Facebook, so it should work at work too. Time will tell on this of course, but like I said before, it feels like something is coming.

Perhaps it's my personal concerns for what is going on in Egypt today? I mean why should I be worried that another Islamic nation could fall to Islamic Law. The fact that the Islamic Brotherhood wants Egypt, one of the only secular Muslim nations to fall under Islamic Law means nothing but bad news for every non Islamic Law ruled nation in the world. This includes the United States. If Egypt falls into the hands of the Islamic Brotherhood, we could very well have Iran 2.0 and... Our only real ally left in the middle east would loose their only Muslim ally. That ally of course would be Israel. If Israel is attacked by any of these Muslim nations, or Egypt for that matter, the world as we know it could change. An enraged Israel is 1,000 times worse than a enraged United States. The reason for this is simple... Israel can not be defeated. Israel is protected by a power that is greater than anything on this world. What all this means for the United States is that not only would we probably loose Egypt as an ally, but it would leave Turkey, our once great ally, but now not so much thanks to our wonderful government insulting them., all alone as a secular Muslim nation. The middle east is a powder keg. Could this situation be the clouds looming overhead?

Often times, people associate clouds with sadness and bad things. For me though that's not always the case. I've never been one to enjoy being out in the sun that much, but I love cloudy days where I don't have to strain my eyes or anything like that. That being said, the clouds looming overhead are making one thing quite clear in my sight. That would be that I am in an incredibly stable and healthy relationship. I don't even have to think twice about it as I can see plain as day that what I have with Lauren right now is just awesome and will hopefully last for a long long time. Perhaps the clouds on the horizon are a sign of an upswing for Lauren. I've been as supportive as I can be with her massive struggle involving her back. It is draining trying to stay so positive, but I will never quit. Could the clouds be the help that she needs so desperately. Honestly I pray for this the most...

I'm going to start doing something new at the end of my blogs from here on out. I'm going to post a music video like the one above and share my thoughts on it. The first one is "The Ghost of You" by: My Chemical Romance. As a history major, this video is just simply amazing as the Allied Troops enjoy a USO show just to move into Nazi controlled France at Omaha Beach. This video I think catches the real emotions of war and frankly it is a sad video. It does mean a lot to me though cause whenever I hear it, I have to think about the men and women who fought to preserve our freedoms as Americans. I think of the countless numbers of American lives that were lost in Nazi Germany, the Pacific Ocean, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Mexico, England, Italy, and Africa. I have to think of the ones who never got to see their mom or dad again because of war. It sounds like sad thoughts, but at this point... It's defiantly more of a respectful thought. Without them, we wouldn't be the Americans we are today. Again I thank you all veterans past, present, and future. So with that being said... Enjoy "The Ghost of You" by: My Chemical Romance and while you watch. Think about the soldiers...
