2 weeks left in the semester. 1 more paper to write. 2 exams to take. 1 presentation to make. Not too much left to go in my second to last semester at Kean University. All I can say about it is thank God. This semester has seen the most work I have ever run into in a semester and the added hours I received at work only added on to the stress and anxiety. Well I can say with the end in sight that I am going to make it through. I feel incredibly fatigued, tired, exhausted, drained, fried, and a variety of other feelings. However, I continue to push myself through, which is something I have never had to do before. This semester I've balanced so much and accomplished a lot as well. Really it's to the point that when this semester is over I will literally celebrate. The classes this semester were all great with the exception of two that were big letdowns. None the less though, they all had heavy workloads and I've managed to get it all done.
I need to make it through these last two weeks. I need to make it through. I feel physically terrible lately, but I've continued to endure. Tomorrow night I am going to actually take a night to relax and possibly see a movie with Lauren. Something that I have not done in quite a while. In fact I haven't done much with Lauren in quite a while... That is certainly not something I am proud of. I guess I've been failing in trying to balance time between school, work, friends, and girlfriend. That's okay though, because this is something I should be able to work on and fix. Luckily for me, next semester I will only be taking one course and will in theory have some more time on my hands. Hopefully this will be time that I will be able to see Lauren despite the fact that she'll be living away from home for the semester. I've still got a chance to change things around and fix the issues I've been having with my time management. I suppose a weekend away will be nice for New Years weekend, but that's still a little ways off.
So that's enough about me for now really. Till next time...

Destroying the World... One Creature at a Time...
So out of the news of the situation going on in Ohio, I feel the need to voice my opinion and point out some interesting things. Of course the situation in Ohio is horrible and the bottom line is that no one is right in the event. The guy who kept these animals was wrong. The officials who decided to mow these creatures down for being themselves was wrong, and the fact that people are actually in support of what the police did are all wrong. Those lions, tigers, bears, etc. did nothing out of what they would normally do in the wild. Those people had no business killing them. How is this ok?
Simply put, the answer is that it is not ok. As soon as those animals were reported gone, they should have been all out found and tranquilized. There was no reason to kill these animals. There was no reason for these animals to have been put in the position they were put in period. It's just another tragedy that deals another blow to several threatened species. It's not just this incident that had gotten me going tonight...
Off the coast of Columbia, there is a massive Shark Sanctuary where no one is allowed to enter with the intent of hunting or killing sharks. Very grim news has come out of Columbia that 2,000 sharks had been slaughtered within the last couple of days. Research divers stumbled on fresh carcasses of Galapagos, Hammerhead, and Whale Sharks. None of the sharks had fins. 10 of the boats seen inside the sanctuary had Costa Rica flags flying. Costa Rica condemns the involvement and if any of the boats are registered in Costa Rica, they will be punished. Of course money speaks louder than words and the government will probably wind up doing nothing.
Outside of these two incidents... Another horrendous slaughter has been uncovered. This one straight from Taiwan. The images in the below video are NEW and VERY RECENT! Watch and learn that WE ARE DESTROYING THIS PLANET... ONE CREATURE AT A TIME!!!

The Final Plan
As of late I've been feeling like I'm on top of the world again. Seemingly nothing has been going wrong in life as of late, which feels really good. So I've got some big news. Before last summer I blogged about a 1 year plan for school which had me taking 5 courses this semester, 1 winter course, and 5 courses this upcoming Spring Semester. Well after talking with my adviser, and graduation people, it turns out that I need to take 5 courses this semester(in progress), 0 courses this winter, and 1 course this spring. 1 freaking class left. Let's get it finished! That's my motto for the next 8 months or so.

Flee the Burning, Greedy City...
It's been almost a month since my last entry. It's not that I haven't had the time to type one up, rather I just haven't been able to put my thoughts into actual words. I have basically had a typers block and its continuing, but I really want to type something... Anything. So for the past month I have been pretty busy with work, but not too much else. I went back to work at Sea View for the month, but am done with it already as I am going to back to school on...... Friday. It was nice being back at the store, but at the same time I know that I have to get this last year of school over with.
I think it's time for me to make some choices in my personal life. One of those things is choosing a group of friends. At this point my group of friends is pretty small, but something happened recently that really made me question just how much the group cares about me... Hurricane Irene was less than a day away and I was ordered to evacuate. Out of my group of friends... only 1 offered me any kind of help if it was needed. I'm not going to say his or her name, but just 1 freaking friend actually cared enough to say anything . Meanwhile... My family got phone calls, texts, messages, etc from many people offering help. It really made me see that perhaps my friends are just that. Friends, but not people who I can really rely on to help me out when situations arise. I'm not bitter about it. I'm really not. I just don't think that I should waste my time, staying up till 3:00am in the middle of a Hurricane worrying about my friends anymore. This does not include my co-workers who actually seemed to care a lot more than people I've known much longer.
Another decision I have made is that I will really back off purchasing video games and Yu-Gi-Oh cards. As far as cards go, it will be incredibly easy as the game has just introduced a new mechanic that will eventually take the place of Synchros in a new series. So I simply won't get involved in the mechanic. Stopping buying video games is going to be a little more difficult. I have a list of newer games that I would like to purchase. After that list is complete I will be purchasing only old games. By that I mean games for Playstation 1, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Nintendo, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color.
Music is a funny thing to me now. My taste just keeps changing as to what I like best. At the start of this year I had strayed a bit from my normal hard rock and metal and took interest in some older rock and other, less heavy stuff. This past month though I've been back to what I originally liked, hard rock, screamo, and metal. Bands like Eighteen Visions, Avenged Sevenfold, Bleeding Through, and As I Lay Dying are seeing more playtime while others like Queens of the Stoneage, Fuel, AC/DC, and Weird Al are seeing less playtime. I've been really connecting with the lyrics of songs again that I used to listen to a lot and am remembering why I liked them in the first place. My Zune has so much variety on it now that it's insane. Generes on it are... Rock, Metal, Screamo, Classical, Classic Rock, Techno, Showtunes, Alternative Rock, Pop, JPop, and Hybrid. There is still no Rap to be found and that isn't going to be changing any time soon!
Well that's about it for now. I can't figure out how to put other things into words right now. I have a lot on my mind. Mostly due to the Hurricane thing. That actually really deflated me a little bit and I am trying to recover as quickly as I can. Thanks friends for caring so much... You monsters... Thanks co-workers for caring so much :)

Commercial Fishing and the Death of the Sea
Every year more and more fish are being taken out of the ocean by humans. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people go out on their own boats, stand on the beach, sit on docks, and carefully wait for a fish to swim by their feet. The bottom line is that all of these people are catching fish for themselves to eat. This has been going on for thousands of years and really has not impacted the populations of most fish that much, the exception of course being sharks. If you walk into the sea food section of a store and take a look at the amount of different fish that are on display stop and think for a moment. Ask yourself, how long did it take for someone to catch just the fish that you are looking at. For your average person catching fish, it would take at least a few days to catch the amount of fish that you can find in your local supermarket. However there is an industry in this world that does much more than that in the blink of an eye.
Commercial fishing is a large part of the reason fish populations have been dropping worldwide. Take this into consideration. Certain species of fish that are sought after by people as a food source lay over a million eggs at one time. Those eggs hatch into baby fish that are eaten by larger fish. Generally only a few thousand will survive to become adults. Then comes man with their gigantic nets that scoop up literally thousands of fish per scoop. Out of one litter... Possibly 1,000 or less of a potential litter would survive. Of course even as adults, those fish are targeted by other species of fish and birds. It may take a while, but as a result, those fish populations decline. Not only does commercial fishing target literally millions of fish every year, but is also indiscriminate.
In a school of fish there is often more than just one species of fish. Young fish of many different species can be seen schooling together and as a result get caught together. This includes some species of shark that reproduce slowly and often in litters of 4 or less. Hence these populations are even more at risk from this industry. There are regulations that suggest that workers sort through the fish they catch, but when the fish look so similar, it is hard to hand sort through thousands of fish and pick out one baby shark. Another problem is that many people just don't care. They are getting a paycheck for their catch regardless and in many cases in restaurants around the world, random fish are found in a flat of say herring. In those cases, the fish are just tossed into the trash literally dying for nothing.
Commercial fishing is also full of lies. When you go into the supermarket and purchase a package of scallops... What you are actually purchasing is not always scallop. Often times stingray is marked as scallop. In Japan, dolphin meat has been advertised and sold as whale meat, and around the world various fish have been marked as one thing when in fact they are another. So the next time you visit the store. Think before you purchase something because what you buy may not be what is labeled!
I am not saying that I want to see an end to commercial fishing. What I am saying is that in the near future the demand for commercial sea food MUST decrease. In the case of Aquariums, there literally needs to be a commercial fishing industry otherwise every Aquarium around the world would have to close thanks to there literally being no food. For people though, we are far more than capable of catching our own fish. I do not feel that the local food store should have a seafood section let alone entire restaurants dedicated to it. We are taking way too many fish out of the ocean and the evidence is all over the place. Overfishing is thought to be a massive threat to African Penguin populations. Not because people are eating the bird, but because people are taking all of the food away from them. Closer to home, shark populations have decreased and as a result some species have seen a spike in population, but other animals like clams have seen a sharp drop off in population as a result. Basically we are messing with the food chain and in the end the only thing that can happen is disaster! I just want to stress again that I do not wish to see an end to commercial fishing, but I do feel that it needs to be toned down a great deal. Ideally I would like to see it reserved for Aquariums, Zoos, and other places that animals cannot naturally get their own food. I know that this will probably ever happen, but at the same time I would love to see more people become aware of what is going on in the ocean and help to fix what is quickly breaking!

The End of the Line? A New Start
I've had this feeling rising up in me for some time now. I'm not proud, or happy about this feeling. In fact I feel sad, upset, and frustrated over it. Above is a picture of a shortfin mako shark. This year I vowed to take a stand against the Mako Mania Tournament, but I wound up valuing my freedom more than taking a stand for this animal. What did I learn from it? Basically that my freedom was more important to me than joining a bunch of PETA supporters. The end result? I've some to see that there really isn't much further I can go as far as saving sharks here in New Jersey.
So what more can I do? I've been to stores trying to deliver the message about shark products. I've tried to educate people on the facts of shark finning. I've managed to get over 2,000 people to sign a petition to help put an end to finning. I've helped put together week long events to further educate children and adults alike on shark finning and sharks in general. I've spammed the word of the plight of sharks all over the internet. I've done a lot of good in the fight for sharks in this small town, but I feel like I've run into a wall. Literally I feel like I'm standing on a beach looking out over the ocean and knowing I'm just unable to get to that horizon.
So the new plan is this... While I am mired here in New Jersey I am going to begin a new mission while continuing to deliver the message of shark conservation. I am going aim my educative goals on one particular shark that I see as the most beautiful animal in the entire ocean. I want to tell people about where these animals live, what they eat, how they live their lives. I want to learn more about this specific fish and help to save them from the very extinction they are threatened by. This fish is none other than the whale shark, the biggest and most beautiful of all sharks.

The Story Goes On and On...
So I finally have a little bit of a chance to sit down and type a blog for the first time in oh over a month. I have been so busy that I have literally had no time to do much outside of work and school. The off time that I do have I would rather spend with Lauren or Matt than sit in front of a computer screen. Anyway vacation was GREAT!!!! Here's a little overview...
We arrived in Mexico as Tropical Storm Arlene was developing and soaking the resort area. So the first few days were quite wet, but it was not a bad thing as we took Sunday afternoon and Monday to relax. The fun really began on Tuesday as we snorkeled in three different places. All of which had incredible visibility and a very diverse population of fish. The underground rivers we snorkeled were simply amazing to see stalactites that were several hundred years old and still growing. Not to mention all the bats. I also conquered jumping out of a tree into a massive crater lake. The next day Lauren and I went to some Mayan Ruins that did not disappoint either as we climbed over 125 stairs to the top of Coba. What a view... That's all that can be said about it. Friday was a bit of a disappointment as the storm had driven away the whale sharks and we spent 8 hours on a boat to try and find them. Sadly we never did find them. Saturday was another highlight as I went snorkeling with the guys on two reefs and saw a massive barracuda, stingray, sea turtle, and literally thousands of other fish. Sunday we came home and Monday was a nice relaxing day at home.
So that's a quick little overview on how my vacation went with Lauren and her family. So with that being said.... I've been swamped with work and class since I got back and it looks like it will continue for a few more weeks as Shark Week is just around the corner and I have a lot of preparations to do. At least I enjoy doing the work. If I didn't like my job I'd be a much more angry person. As a result... my videogame systems have been quiet for the past week. I'd love to play the game I picked up last week, but I've been virtually unable to do anything in it. Hopefully this week will present a little bit more opportunity to relax and play. Time will tell and hopefully my next blog entry will not be a month away.

Days Like These...
Days like these really make me think. I had a lot of time today to myself and I let my mind wander around like a small child left in a crowed store searching for his or her parent. However, I wasn't looking for a parent, I was looking for nothing really. My thoughts were literally all over the place, it was in short a very mentally exhausting day. So I think I'll divulge into some of the things I've thought about today to kind of get them out in the open and out of my mind.
The first thing I was thinking about on this very hot day was what in the world happened to my social life? Yes I have a social life, I'm aware of that. I go to school. I go to work. I see Lauren. The issue is though... I feel like I have no guy friends that I can just hang out with and just basically be guys. I feel like the very few people I decided to stay in touch with are drifting away. One of which I think is because I no longer play Yugioh competitively, but that's another story. I don't know, perhaps its for the best. The other I just feel like we're going in two different directions. He has his friends and they do what they do, but I just feel that sometimes I get forgotten about when weeks go by without hearing a word...
Next I realized that though I've felt on top of the world, I still do have some problems with depression. Today I just felt down through the majority of the day. I had hoped that I had gotten passed it, but apparently I haven't just yet. It was a tiny set back, but I know I gotta just keep going. I know not to give into the feelings I am having, but to continue working on what I know I can work on.
The biggest thing I had an issue with today was because of class. We were talking about forgiveness and if there were people in our lives that we had not forgiven. A lot of feelings came bubbling up about my most recent ex, and they were not good at all. Huge setback for me here... Caution... Foul language may ensue ahead... Then again... It may not... We talked about the things that people did that caused us to feel like a victim. Since we were talking about people in our past, she came rushing to the forefront of my mind and boy did I have a freaking lovely time remembering the things she said and did to me. It sucked thinking about how she literally took my trust, faith, and everything else and smashed it into twenty million pieces. Times got real tough during that time and I have not and will not forgive her for it. Call it what you will, but this is my feelings on the subject. Afterall...
Since that time, things have been incredible and looking back on it, it was for the best, but how it went down was simply pathetic. I've heard and seen break ups over texting or telephone, but I never thought it would happen to me, but it did and it sucked. It took me a long time to trust anyone the way I trusted her, but I did learn to despite the fact that it was not easy. When Lauren and I first started going out, I had serious, serious trust issues. I was paranoid beyond all reality about just about everyone. I felt like I had to be on edge and keep a huge defense up to ensure that I would not be hurt like that again. I guess you could say I was scared back then. Even after 1 year, I still was a nervous wreck.
All of this came back to me during this class and it was tough to deal with, but something happened that never happened before. I actually dealt with it! I didn't sulk, I didn't cry in a corner, I didn't call Lauren in a depressed fit. No I dealt with it myself. I reaffirmed with myself that all of this happened for a reason. In the case of mine and Lauren's relationship, it probably all turned out for the best. After all we are now closer than ever and are basically inseparable. I have no worries about her leaving me. I have a stronger trust with her now compared to anyone I have ever had in any of my past relationships.
Trust is a word that has always meant a lot to me. For a long time my motto was "Don't trust anyone". It was how I lived my life and it sucked big time. So I tried to trust someone and it was smashed sending me right back into that mindset. Then this one girl for some reason or another decided that she wanted to deal with it as long as it took me to get my head on straight and establish a close trusting relationship. I never for one second thought that anyone could be this dedicated to a relationship that had just started.
The whole point of this is that believe it or not, despite the fact that I will not forgive my ex for the things she did to me. She did teach me a valuable lesson and the lesson I learned have spilled into a nearly 3 year relationship. This lesson was that I was never to give 100% trust to anyone again unless a long period of time had passed and a special feeling unlike any other is felt. This relationship with Lauren is so special to me. It's like nothing I've felt before. I'm not sitting here saying "Oh I love you blah blah blah we're going to get married blah blah blah lets run away blah blah blah." Rather I'm sitting here saying that the feeling I have with Lauren is a special one that I've honestly never really felt before. Have I thought about getting engaged to her? At this point, yes I have, but we both know that we need to get a little closer to being done with school before we start to go any further in our relationship. We've talked and we both agree that this is the healthiest thing for our relationship. In the mean time, we will continue to work out whatever little kinks that exist in our relationship and continue to grow stronger together. Even as we start to see each other less and less due to adverse work schedules, we continue to grow in strength. The times that we do see each other though, we have a blast and take every opportunity to do some kind of activity together. These can be as small as playing a game or going out on a date. When we have the time, we are together!
It's funny that as I wrap up this blog, I now have a smile on my face. Perhaps I just needed to vent out my feelings on the day. Or perhaps I can just think of Lauren and smile? Either way though time alone and a class involving conflict can cause some negative feelings to bubble up, but I am actually proud of the way I handled it all today. It exhausted me to no end, but I did not do anything I would have used to do. Tomorrow is another day and hopefully I'll be able to see Lauren and I'll be back to 100% once more.

New Jersey Shark
So this blog is about sharks that visit New Jersey. There is a large portion of people in this state that have no idea that sharks swim in the ocean just off the New Jersey Coast. Here in New Jersey we get an incredibly wide variety of sharks that come close to shore and hang out offshore. Lets do a quick rundown of some of the more endangered species of shark that you can find swimming right along side of you as you swim in the ocean this summer!
Sandbar Shark (Carcharhinus plumbeus)
These sharks stick true to their names and tend to be seen in shallow waters. Out of all the large sharks that can be found in New Jersey, the sandbar shark is the most common. These sharks are seen pretty much every year cruising through the surf in search of small fish, crabs, and lobsters. Despite the fact that they are so common and big, these sharks are not known to be aggressive towards humans and are known to scare easily. They can grow to be about 6 feet long and are easily distinguished from other sharks by their very large dorsal fin. This species of shark is also known as the brown shark despite the fact that is gray in color. Sandbar sharks are currently listed as "VULNERABLE" on the IUCN's Red List. This means that on the endangered species ladder, they are just one step away from being endangered. The primary threat to these sharks is overfishing and shark finning.
Sand Tiger Shark (Carcharias taurus)
The sand tiger shark is probably the most ferocious looking shark that you can find in New Jersey. However, it is one of the most docile. The only time sand tiger sharks have been known to attack swimmers and divers is when they are provoked first. This generally passive nature has led them to get the nickname the gray nurse shark and their ferocious looking teeth have given them the nickname ragged tooth shark. These sharks are usually found in deeper water, can grow to 8 feet in length and are actually social! That's right social! These sharks have been found in caves together resting before going out on their own to hunt at night. Groups of over 100 sand tiger sharks have been seen hanging out with each other. Since they do not come in contact with swimmers and only attack divers when provoked, the sand tiger shark is considered to be harmless towards humans. Sadly, much like the sandbar shark, the sand tiger shark is currently listed as "VULNERABLE" on the IUCN's Red List. Also, much like the sandbar shark, the primary threat these animals face is overfishing and shark finning.
The Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias)
Probably the most famous shark in the world, for no good reason at all. The great white shark has been the center of fear and imagination since the movie Jaws came out. This fish is probably the most misunderstood animal in the world. Are they aggressive? Yes. Are they dangerous? Yes. Are they vicious man eaters? NO. Do they just want to eat everything they see? NO. Do they pick on humans just for fun? NO. Do they roar? NO. Do they perform incredible acrobatic tricks? Actually in certain parts in the world they do, but not in New Jersey. In fact, this past summer there were a couple sightings of great white sharks swimming just offshore this state. Was there a single attack? NO. In fact, great whites swim off the coast of New Jersey quite regularly and most people don't even realize it. The great white shark is considered to be an ENDANGERED SPECIES. In fact, many scientists feel that there are more tigers left in the world than great whites. These animals are in dire need of protection that they are slowly starting to receive. The reason these sharks have seen their populations plummet is the fact that they have been hunted to near extinction. Much of this was spawned out of fear instilled in people by Jaws and other shark attack movies.
Scalloped Hammerhead Shark (Sphyrna lewini)
Another shark that fascinates millions of people around the world. This shark is one of the most famous sharks in the world because of their hammer shaped heads. They have been seen together in large schools and on their own. 2 years ago, a small school of these sharks were seen swimming near Martell's Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant N.J. No attacks occurred as the sharks were just cruising through the water looking for small fish. This shark is by no means a common site in New Jersey, but when they are here, they are quite the site to behold! Despite their beauty and amazing features, these sharks are an ENDANGERED SPECIES! The main reason for this is that they are hunted pretty much nonstop for their fins.
Those are just a few of the more endangered species of shark that you can find living in New Jersey. Some of the other species of shark that you can find both in New Jersey and on the endangered species list include Whale Sharks, Basking Sharks, Shortfin Mako Sharks, Great Hammerhead Sharks, Tiger Sharks, Nurse Sharks, Lemon Sharks, Blue Sharks, Thresher Sharks, Smooth Dogfish, Porbeagle Sharks, and even Bull Sharks. All of these sharks are in dire need of help and this state is really not doing its part. One sure fire way to tell is the fact that right here in Point Pleasant Beach there is a shortfin mako kill tournament that takes place every year. The Mako is the worlds fastest shark and it is being hunted to extinction with virtually no help... Again though... These sharks are just some of the sharks that you may encounter either out on the ocean on a boat or swimming in the surf. Again these animals are magnificent creatures and should be treated with respect.

At Last...
At last my silence has been broken. After nearly a month, I have finally decided to type up a brand new blog... Well lets see what's gone on since my last blog... First off lets talk grades. My grades for the Spring 2011 semester are as follows.
Modern Israel: A-
Social Psychology: A
The American West: B+
America In Vietnam: B+
The First World War: A
Needless to say that I am very pleased with these grades and so far my summer course has been running very smoothly despite the fact that its moving twice as fast as a normal class would. More on that though as this summer semester ends.
So what else has been going on? Well I've been working basically full time at the Aquarium and boy have I ever been busy. I have been trained to be a feeder, meaning on certain days I am the one responsible for preparing food for every animal in the Aquarium. I've been getting busy with the summer activities coming up as well including the 20th Anniversary Party and Shark Week. My hands are full, but oddly enough I'm not stressing about it at all, which is very, very strange for me. Perhaps its because I know that it will all work out. Time will tell though!
So I am now just a few weeks away from going to Mexico on vacation with Lauren and her family. I'm starting to really look forward to going. It is going to be a great time and from the sounds of it, I'll be in the water for a good portion of the trip which is, well for me... Awesome?!?!?! Yeah that's a good word for it. Some other things that I'll be looking for to such as... Different wildlife, relaxation, and a bunch of memories that will last a lifetime. This will be my first big trip away from home and I am blessed to be going with such great people!
Well that is about all that I can think of that's noteworthy in life right now. Oh forgot to mention that people in the past keep randomly showing up. I think I've seen more of my ex classmates over the past few weeks than I have in like 4 years? Kinda weird, but it's nice to see that some people are doing well. Others... Well lets just say have made some not so good decisions and have even screwed themselves over twofold.

End of Spring 2011 Semester!
Phew I made it. Another semester finished. This one turned out to be the most writing intensive one yet, but I managed to get all of it done with a week to spare in the semester. So right now I think that out of my 5 classes I will be bringing home 3 Bs and 2 As. Time will tell on that though. So what's next. After a brief break from school I will be taking back to back summer courses. The first involves communications and conflict resolution, which I think should be quite interesting. The other is a Sociology course. Both courses go towards my major and will be a big step in finishing stuff up. Then will come the Fall semester that will put my plan into overdrive with 5 courses. I will be finishing both my history and other major requirements, besides my senior seminar in the fall. The courses that I will be taking are...
Jewish History to 1789: Took Modern Israel this past semester and enjoyed it, so why not? Same professor as last time too, so it should be a pretty good class.
Nazi Era Germany-Pre Holocaust: Well this should be self evident. I LOVE World War II and find it all incredibly interesting, so this should go a long way to feeding that crave I have to learn more about the war, Germany in particular.
Civil War and Reconstruction: Well... I am a History major and not taking this course would be... Um..... senseless?
Sociology of Deviance: Simply put... I need one more major course requirement... This ought to do just fine.
Drug Use and Abuse: Um.... Pretty self evident.
Well those are my Fall Semester courses. Moving on though... Outside of the summer classes, I will be hopefully having an enjoyable summer. I'm looking to do more fun things this year than I did last. I'd like to be able to fish, swim, and get in shape more so than I have for the past few years. Sadly... this is going to be at the expense of one of my jobs. I'd like to be able to pick it back up, but I don't know if I will be able to this summer. No I am not talking about the Aquarium.
So the Spring semester is over, my confidence is high and I'm looking forward to this final year of schooling. Then I can move on and get ready for the world.

NHL Semi Finals
Well the quarter finals are over. 4 teams from each conference have been eliminated. Oddly enough, there was no real upset in the first round despite the Blackhawks coming incredibly close to upsetting the league leading Canucks and the Lighting coming back from being down 3-1 to eliminate the injury plagued Penguins. So here's my predictions for round 2.
Eastern Conference
1.) Washington Capitals vs 5.) Tampa Bay Lightning: Washington blew the New York Rangers away in 5 games to make it to this point. The Caps are a much different team than they were last year. The team now has a nice balance of offense and defense. On the other hand, the Tampa Bay Lightning are a young team with a lot of offense, but a big question mark on the defense. Both these teams are capable of scoring big numbers, but I feel that the Capitals will win this series in 6 games. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lightning win the first two games of the series before their defense and goaltending start to crack. Roloson is a great goalie, but he is old as far as hockey standards are concerned and will probably tire from the onslaught of Ovechkin and the Capitals. If that does not happen though.... The Lightning could be the upset of the playoffs.
2.) Philadelphia Flyers vs 3.) Boston Bruins: The Flyers and Bruins both advanced to the semis by beating two very game teams in the form of the Buffalo Sabres and the Montreal Canadians. The Bruins were led by the goaltending of Tim Thomas and the Flyers were led by the goaltending of.......... Well....... It's hard to say since it was a merry go round of goalies in the first round. Anyway... The Flyers are getting healthier with the return of Pronger who will now meet once again, Zedeno Chara. Last year is still fresh in the minds of the Bruins who were eliminated after leading 3-0 in the series. I think that the Flyers will eliminate the Bruins for a second straight year. I think this will be another 7 game struggle with the Flyers coming out on top thanks to some home ice advantage.
Western Conference
1.) Vancouver Canucks vs 5.) Nashville Predators: Not much of a contest here I don't think. Predators won a close series against the Anaheim Ducks and the Canucks eeked by the Chicago Blackhawks. Still though, I think Vancouver will get their acts together and eliminate the Predators in 5 games at most.
2.) San Jose Sharks vs 3.) Detroit Red Wings: The series to watch this round as far as I'm concerned. Detroit swept the Pheonix Coyotes and the Sharks eliminated the very young and dangerous Los Angeles Kings. Both of these teams are fast, hard hitting, all around teams. I can't give an edge to either team in any category but goaltending. I feel that Niemi is probably the better of the goalkeepers and he is a defending champion. The Red Wings are no strangers to the playoffs and have had great success. The Sharks have been hyped hyped and hyped again, and have yet to produce the cup. If they manage to defeat the Wings, it will go a long way in giving confidence to the Sharks. I think the Sharks will be able to do this, but it will take a full 7 games to accomplish.
My picks...
